I have time, plenty of time. This is not true. You are always “on the clock”. Some people think they can outsmart the IRS or just go for years without filing. Some think they have even gotten away with not paying their taxes because a few years have passed. Rest assured the IRS’ clock has just started counting.
The Collection Statue Expiration Date (CSED) is the period in which the IRS has the legal authority to collect taxes from you. The IRS generally has ten years from the date you receive your first letter after filing a return to collect the tax and any associated penalties and interest from you. Also, there are many events that can pause that ten-year period. Other than the IRS processing your tax return, a few events that can initiate the CSED include the IRS filing for you (if you don’t file for yourself) and additions to your tax bill due to audits and civil penalties. All of this may sound complicated; and it surely can be, but that’s why our team is here to assist you.
At Milestone Tax Solutions, our team loves finding solutions to all your IRS tax debt issues and would be happy to assist you with some much-needed IRS tax debt relief.
IRS tax debt may sound alarming and scary; and it can be, but we have resolutions including but not limited to holding off collection activities, getting payment plans in place that fit your budget, settling at a much lower amount, and much more!
